In relation to the development of the artistic representation of space it is common to refer to the revolution of the "Quattrocento" , yet it is far more accurate to claim that a process which started with Giotto climaxed and then ended. Undoubtedly, however, this climax gave birth to not only new qualities compared to the medieval methods of spatial representation but also opened a radically new chapter within the evolution of perspective.
